The following materials were presented at the Laboratory Encounters in Plant Genomics workshop held at the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Lab in Lonoke, AR. The workshop, for science and agriculture teachers of grades 5-12, was designed to introduce methods and applications of genomic plant research, especially as they apply to the RiceCAP project. Teachers were introduced to the importance of rice as a crop and to the goals and organization of RiceCAP. In addition to discussions of molecular biology and biotechnology, hands-on sessions included DNA isolation, electrophoresis, and mutant plant growth and treatments.
The full article describing the workshop may be read in the August 2006 newsletter, page 1.
